With above average temps throughout June, it’s unlikely we’ll get much relief from the heat. Put another way, it’s a good time to take some extra steps to help stay cool inside and outside.

Cook Outdoors

Hot ovens, cooktops with pots boiling, the dishwasher and dryer running, can all rapidly increase temperatures throughout your house. It’s the perfect opportunity to fire up the grill to take advantage of the holiday weekend and enjoy some al fresco meal prep.

Change Out the AC Filters

Do you know when the last time the HVAC air filter was replaced? If you don’t know, there’s no better time than now to change out the filter. A filter clogged with dirt, dust, and debris keeps your AC from working efficiently, and it can also reduce the quality of your home’s indoor air. If you buy several air filters at one time, you’ll always have a readily available replacement air filter.

Turn on Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans are a low-cost, low-tech way to stay cool indoors. Make sure the directional switch on your ceiling fans is set to rotate counterclockwise. This keeps the air blowing downwards, helping to keep you and your guests cool and comfortable. If you have ceiling fans installed on your patio, turn them on to keep cooler outside and remember to turn them off when you return indoors for the evening.

Cover Windows

Sunshine streaming through windows can quickly heat up a room making your air conditioner work even harder. It’s especially important to keep blinds, window shades, drapes, and shutters closed during peak sun hours between 10am and 2pm.

Happy Fourth of July from Bruce’s

Sometimes, air conditioner failures happen even during holidays. If you experience an unexpected AC malfunction, give us a call anytime of the day or night. We offer valley-wide emergency HVAC service even on Independence Day. Bruce’s Air Conditioning & Heating wishes you and your family a safe, healthy, and happy 4th of July!
